"I am Janice Cheshire, and I choose Baptist Cancer Center for better care and doctors I can trust."
Janice Cheshire was stunned to find out she had cancer. So shocked, in fact, she couldn’t get past her breast cancer diagnosis to begin thinking about what she was going to be up against in the weeks, months and years ahead. Reflecting back on that fateful day, she is eternally grateful for the quick action taken by her doctor. She was especially thankful for being referred to Baptist Cancer Center.
“When my doctor told me I had breast cancer over the phone, he said they were going to set me up with a referral for several doctors, including a breast surgeon, a plastic surgeon and an oncologist,” recalled Janice. “I didn’t know who they were or where I had to go at first. But when I met my care team at Baptist Cancer Center, I knew right away they were a great team.”
Janice is especially impressed with the level of personal attention she received from her care team. They seemed to anticipate her needs before she realized she had them, and that went a long way in helping her fully trust their judgment and capabilities.
“I would rate them, like, 100%,” said Janice. “Their care for their patients is the main reason I would recommend Baptist Cancer Center highly to anyone who asks me.”
Like many cancer patients, Janice tried to balance her sense of helplessness with the belief that she was in the right place for her care and with the right people. Some days, the fear wins. But most days, Janice grew in her determination to defeat her cancer. She credits her care team and Dr. Philip Lammers, a board-certified medical oncologist and hematologist at Baptist Cancer Center, for the courage that sustained her on her cancer journey.
“I really don’t think I would have gotten through this without all of the help they gave me,” said Janice. “I put a lot of trust in Dr. Lammers, and he has never let me down. He is looking out for me as a patient and a person. He explains everything in a way I can understand, and he helped me come to terms with my condition and my plan to overcome it.”
Janice thought she was the last person who would find herself in a fight against breast cancer. And when the fight came to her, she wasn’t sure of the best course of action. But having excellent doctors and health care professionals at Baptist Cancer Center on her side has more than steadied her resolve to defeat cancer.
“I was scared, because you never ever think it would happen to you. I mean, I really didn’t,” said Janice. “And I am so very grateful, blessed really, to be in the care of these incredible people. This is the place to be.”
