What can a patient expect when they have you as a doctor?

Any of my patients can expect to be welcomed to our facility by friendly and knowledgeable staff. They can expect to be treated with dignity and respect, as well as an understanding of the high complexity involved in managing their condition. We find the balance between what is the "standard of care" and the need for autonomy and individualized decision making. My patients can also expect to receive the most advanced and cutting edge technology in cancer care. In essence, my patients can expect to be treated the way I would want myself or any member of my family to be cared for.

What is the most important factor in a doctor patient relationship and why?

In my opinion, one of the most important aspects in a doctor-patient relationship, is mutual respect and understanding. I believe that many other positive attributes stem from mutual respect and understanding. When respect and understanding is there, it is more likely that a patients will be able to make the best decision for themselves, with the help of their doctor.

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy when you're not working?

My favorite pastimes include visiting new places with wife and children and spending time with my family. I also enjoy playing soccer (or used to, mostly watch others play these days) and watching any type of sports, reading and building model airplanes.

What about your line of work do you find the most rewarding?

The part of my work I find most rewarding is being a guide for my patients. For me, a good guide is an indispensable asset in any aspect of life. Whatever decisions we make in life, we benefit immensely from having someone who has good insight into the issues to guide us through. I find that a lot of my time is spent explaining the reasoning behind the decisions we make to my patients and their families. My sincere hope is that when they understand the "why" everything else works out much better.
